Seal Component and Material Developments at NB Vulcan

Despite Vulcan’s standard material grades already being “above” industry standard throughout our range, as a forward looking company we have continued the development of our material range and the following is a brief update of developments during the past year.

Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide and Springs

Vulcan’s HAIMI Seal Materials Joint Venture’s two new, purpose-built factories recently passed their first anniversary since opening. This facility enables us to produce and offer Springs, Wave-Springs and Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide at greater volume efficiencies. The primary purpose was to negate raw material cost increases by manufacturing specialised volume parts to contracts, which allows us to efficiently manufacture parts for our seal range and not pass on any raw material cost increase.

Sintered Silicon Carbide

Vulcan’s ATLAS Sintered Silicon Carbide Joint Venture has drawn upon our continued exceptional major capital investment and the technological and commercial support of our global seal materials business partner, to become a significant SSIC manufacturer. Full material test reports and further details are available upon request.

We now offer a range of Sintered Silicon Carbide Grades, including;

Giving further major market opportunity for highly competitive volume sales to OEM’s through our distributor partners for quality Silicon Carbide Rings, Bushes and Parts and more particularly;, for WRAS Approved Carbon, Sintered Silicon Carbide and WRAS/FDA Compliant elastomers. All of which are now at further greatly reduced prices and further backed by our ability to make any special design, feature or to laser etch part names and numbers, exclusively for that OEM Pump Company etc.

Automotive and Highly Productionized Seal

Following successful trials and development over the last four years, with Japan’s leading Automotive Water Pump Manufacturer, we have partnered with them to build an automotive water pump seal volume production line, capable of meeting their contracted needs for two million seals per annum.

This facility means we can now offer automotive seals and their specialised designs and materials. It will also lend volume manufacturing economies to any of our current range of seals, especially such as swimming pool and spa seals, for example.

WRAS Approved Materials

We are delighted to advise that Vulcan can now offer mechanical seals in WRAS approved materials, giving further marketing and sales opportunities for you in your individual markets and with your existing customers.

The current approved materials are as follows:
• Viton: Grade FE2602 – Approval Number 0506502
• Ceramic: Grade V99 – Approval Number 0506503
• Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide: Grade VES-2 – Approval Number 0506504
• Carbon: Grade M825 –– Approval Number 0812516
