Mechanical Seals

Vulcan have the widest range of "Standard" Mechanical Seals, available from any manufacturer in the world. We back this very extensive range with a guaranteed ex-stock holding, that is accessible to our customers to view on our web portal. All seal types, in all sizes and materials, shown in our Mechanical Seal Brochures, are available ex-stock, if previously sold. In total over one million stock code combinations (with an exceeded 99.8% ex-stock target). We can also manufacture practically any special and will even stock them for you, to agreement, for repeat requirements.

All Vulcan seals are manufactured in-house to our own production drawings and designs. We have eliminated the faults common in some original and many copy designs, through close attention to design and material improvements.

Most "Single Spring" seal companies buy in product or merely assemble components in-house. Previously no manufacturer made all their own parts and components and practically all their own materials.

Vulcan do. We produce all our seals and practically everything for them. For example, all of our eight grades of TC and SIC hard-faced materials are made in-house from raw powder. We mould all of our elastomers and even make the moulds for the same.

This vertical integration allows us to absolutely Quality and Cost control all parts of the Vulcan seal. With our Can Do Philosophy, this also enables us to produce many special designs of seals for our customers, with quantities, costs and lead times lower than our competitors, because we primarily do it all in-house.

Material quality is vital to the capability, performance and life of a seal. So Vulcan only specify and manufacture superior quality seal materials. We have heavily invested in even further developing Reaction and Sintered Sic and Nickel and Cobalt TC scintering processes, so that we can exceed previous Single Spring Seals norms. This focus on the best quality face materials is standard through out the Vulcan seal range.

FEP/PFA Encapsulated O-Rings

All standard Vulcan "CHEM-RINGS" are produced in our own two dedicated units, in our own modern, advanced factories. These two facilities have been highly developed in recent years, following Vulcan's purchase of an American manufacturer. In order that we can produce volume, quality FEP/PFA Encapsulated 'O' Rings at the most competitive prices, whilst offering fast, special-sizes manufacture, to service our key markets and customers.

We strongly complement these unrivalled production facilities with an industry leading, ex-stock service. Fully integrated, electronic, bar-coded, computerised stock control and supply management systems, are utilised to provide exceptional service and reliability. This is backed by a stock of over 100,000 Encapsulated 'O' Rings, viewable on our web-site, on all repeat sales and types.

Gland Packing

Vulcan offer an extensive range of gland packings designed and constructed to minimise maintenance costs.

Our philosophy is to offer the most suitable packing, for each application, from the wide selection available, using the most advanced packing fibres, the highest quality braiding methods and the best lubrication process.

All Vulcan packings are square-braided on the most advanced specification braiding machines available. Twenty four and thirty six track braiders are utilised to produce four-ply, square inter-braid packings on all sizes from 3/8" (10mm) upwards. Fibres are run from the core of the packing section to the corner-posts and surfaces, whilst being cross-locked in a square, lattice construction, to produce maximum resilience and a highly dense, square packing, to minimise wear and product loss, whilst increasing packing reliability and life.

Tefcan

TEFCAN is manufactured from 100% Expanded PTFE which is highly compressible and provides excellent sealability. This Expanded P.T.F.E. Gasketing is available in Sheet, Gasket Tape or Cord form.

The exceptional properties of PTFE, combined with the unique nature of its expanded structure, contribute to the long life of seals made with TEFCAN. PTFE is completely unaffected by virtually all chemicals and corrosive environments. TEFCAN will not contaminate flow products nor deteriorate with age.

Tefcan Universal Joint Sealant is manufactured as a continuous cord, with a self-adhesive backing strip. This unique, expanded PTFE cord conforms to irregular shapes and surfaces. Compressing into a thin, wide ribbon, it produces a tough, inert, long-lasting gasket that seals against extremes of temperatures, pressures and corrosive media.

Tefcan Sheet Gasketing is manufactured from pure expanded PTFE, drawn into a homogeneous sheet of uniform thickness, offering exceptional superior sealability.

The Gasket Tape provides the same material and sealing benefits as Tefcan Sheet but is in a continuous strip form, available in a range of widths and thicknesses. Tefcan Gasket Tape combines the advantages of Tefcan Universal Joint Sealant and Sheet Gasketing to form cut full-face, or strip sheet, gaskets with minimal waste
